Ask a Question Giveaway Tool - Polls, Quizzes, and Surveys

Add multiple-choice questions directly inside your giveaway. Run product polls, knowledge quizzes, or customer surveys as part of the entry flow. Participants answer to earn entries. You collect structured data you can actually use.

How the Ask a Question Entry Method Works

Ask a Question is a radio button entry method. You write a question, define the answer options, and participants select one to earn points. It is part of SweepWidget's Custom Form Fields system, available on all Pro plans.

What makes it different from a standard poll: you can set a correct answer. In quiz mode, only participants who select the right answer earn entry points. Wrong answers get zero points. This turns a simple question into a knowledge gate, a trivia challenge, or a product education tool.

Radio Button Selection PRO

All answer options are visible at once as radio buttons. Participants see the full set of choices and pick one. No dropdown clicks, no hidden options.

Correct Answer Mode (Quiz Mode) PRO

Designate one answer as correct. Only participants who choose the right answer earn entry points. Wrong answers earn zero. This is the core of quiz and trivia giveaways.

Open Poll Mode (Any Answer Accepted) PRO

Skip the correct answer setting, and every answer earns points. This turns the question into a poll. Participants vote, you collect the results, and everyone gets entry credit regardless of what they chose.

Multiple Questions Per Giveaway PRO

Add as many questions as your plan allows. Each question is a separate entry method with its own point value. Run a 5-question trivia quiz, a 3-question product survey, or mix quiz questions with poll questions in the same giveaway.

Custom Point Values PRO

Assign different point values to different questions. A hard trivia question could be worth 10 points while an easy one is worth 2. Points feed into the overall entry total and leaderboard ranking.

How to Add Questions to Your Giveaway

Setting up Ask a Question takes about a minute. You can add questions to new giveaways or edit them into existing ones at any time.

1.

In the giveaway builder, open the Entry Methods section. Search for "Radio" or "Ask a Question" and add it.

2.

Write your question in the label field. Example: "Which feature matters most to you?" or "What year was SweepWidget founded?"

3.

Add your answer options. Each option becomes a radio button in the widget. You can add as many options as you need.

4.

For quizzes: Select the correct answer. Only participants who choose it earn points. For polls: Leave no correct answer set, and every selection earns points.

5.

Set the point value and choose whether the question is required or optional. Required questions must be answered before participants can complete other entry methods.

6.

Repeat for additional questions. Each question is a separate entry method, so you can mix quiz questions, poll questions, and other entry types in the same giveaway.

All responses are captured in real time and exported alongside every other participant data point (email, entry methods completed, total points, referral count) in a single CSV file.

3 Ways to Use Ask a Question in a Giveaway

The same radio button entry method works for market research, gamification, and customer feedback. The difference is whether you set a correct answer and how you use the data afterward.

Market Research Polls

Collect product and audience insights while running a giveaway

Use open poll mode (no correct answer) to ask product preference questions, pricing sensitivity questions, or audience demographic questions. Every participant earns points regardless of their answer, so there is no friction. You get structured, exportable data from hundreds or thousands of respondents without paying for a separate survey tool or dealing with low response rates.

Example questions:

  • "Which product feature matters most to you?" (Options: Speed, Price, Design, Support)
  • "How did you discover our brand?" (Options: Social media, Friend referral, Search engine, Ad)
  • "Which new product should we launch next?" (Options: Product A, Product B, Product C)

Why it works: Traditional surveys have response rates in the single digits. When the survey is part of a giveaway entry, people are already motivated to complete every step. You get significantly more responses, and the data is tied directly to each participant's email and entry record. Export everything to CSV and filter by answer to segment your audience.

Trivia and Quiz Contests

Only correct answers earn entries - gamify your giveaway

Set a correct answer for each question. Only participants who answer correctly earn the entry points. This adds a skill element to your giveaway. Use it for brand trivia ("What year was our company founded?"), product knowledge ("Which ingredient is in our flagship product?"), or general knowledge quizzes related to your niche. Pair multiple quiz questions with a leaderboard to create a competitive quiz contest.

How to set it up:

  • Add 3-5 radio button questions with correct answers set for each one
  • Assign higher point values to harder questions (5 points for hard, 2 for easy)
  • Enable the leaderboard so participants see their ranking based on total correct answers
  • Add social follow entry methods alongside the quiz for additional engagement

Why it works: Quiz giveaways drive deeper engagement than standard giveaways. Participants spend time thinking about each question, researching answers on your website, and learning about your brand in the process. A trivia question like "Which page on our site lists all ingredients?" sends people directly to that page. The quiz does double duty as a marketing tool and a giveaway.

Customer Feedback Collection

Structured satisfaction and preference data within contest flow

Run a satisfaction survey or feature request poll as part of a customer appreciation giveaway. Combine radio button questions with other custom form fields (text input for open-ended feedback, checkboxes for multi-select preferences) to build a complete feedback form inside your giveaway. No separate survey tool needed.

Example feedback setup:

  • "How satisfied are you with our product?" (Radio: Very satisfied, Satisfied, Neutral, Dissatisfied)
  • "Which feature should we build next?" (Radio: Feature A, Feature B, Feature C, Other)
  • "Would you recommend us to a friend?" (Radio: Definitely, Probably, Not sure, No)
  • Pair with a Textarea field for "Anything else you'd like us to know?" (open-ended)

Why it works: Customer feedback surveys sent by email get low response rates. When the same questions are part of a giveaway, the prize incentive drives completion. You get structured, sortable data from real customers. Export to CSV, filter by answer, and feed the results into your product roadmap or marketing strategy.

Combine questions with other entry methods for maximum reach. Based on SweepWidget data from 70,000+ giveaways, contests with 5+ entry methods average 787 entrants compared to 163 for single-method giveaways. Add your poll or quiz questions alongside social follows, email subscriptions, and referral sharing to grow your audience while collecting data.

Getting Better Data from Your Giveaway Questions

The quality of your responses depends on how you write your questions and structure your giveaway. Here are practical approaches that produce usable data.

Keep Answer Options Mutually Exclusive

Each answer option should represent a clearly distinct choice. "Under $25 / $25-$50 / $50-$100 / Over $100" works because there is no overlap. Avoid vague options like "Sometimes" vs. "Occasionally" that participants cannot distinguish between. Cleaner options produce cleaner data in your CSV export.

Use Required Mode for Critical Questions

If a question is the primary purpose of your giveaway, mark it as required. Required questions must be answered before participants can complete other entry methods. This guarantees a 100% response rate for that question. For less important questions, keep them optional and assign bonus points as an incentive.

Mix Question Types for Deeper Insights

Radio buttons are great for structured, single-choice data. But you can combine them with other custom field types in the same giveaway. Use a radio button for "How satisfied are you?" and a textarea for "Tell us more." Use a dropdown for "Your industry" and radio buttons for "Your biggest challenge." Mixing field types gives you both quantitative and qualitative data.

For Quizzes, Make the Answers Researchable

The best trivia questions send participants to your website for the answer. "What is our most popular product?" drives traffic to your product page. "Which blog post covers X topic?" drives traffic to your blog. When participants research answers on your site, every wrong guess is an extra page view and another chance to discover your content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a quiz to a giveaway?

Yes. Use the Ask a Question (radio button) entry method and set a correct answer for each question. Only participants who select the right answer earn entry points. You can add multiple quiz questions to a single giveaway, each with its own point value. Combine them with a leaderboard to rank participants by total correct answers.

How do I run a poll inside a giveaway?

Add the Ask a Question entry method and write your poll question with the answer options. Do not set a correct answer. In poll mode, every answer choice earns the same points, so participants vote freely without worrying about getting it wrong. All responses are captured in real time and exportable to CSV for analysis.

What is the Ask a Question giveaway entry method?

It is a radio button custom form field that presents a multiple-choice question inside your giveaway. Participants see all answer options displayed as radio buttons and select one to earn entry points. You can configure it as a poll (any answer accepted) or a quiz (only the correct answer earns points). It is part of SweepWidget's Custom Form Fields system, available on Pro plans.

How many questions can I add to one giveaway?

Each question counts as one entry method toward your plan's total actions. Pro plans allow 40 actions per contest, Business allows 60, Premium allows 80, and Enterprise allows 125. Since most giveaways combine questions with social follows, email subscriptions, and other entry methods, 3-10 questions per giveaway is typical.

Can I see what each participant answered?

Yes. Every response is tied to the participant's entry record. Export your giveaway data to CSV and each participant's answer appears in its own column alongside their email, entry methods completed, total points, and referral count. You can sort and filter by answer to segment your audience based on their responses.

What plan do I need for Ask a Question?

The radio button (Ask a Question) entry method is available on Pro plans and above. Pro is the entry-level paid plan and includes all custom form field types, 40 total actions per contest, 50 winners/prizes, and all core giveaway features including fraud prevention, analytics, and CSV export.
